Yes, they are entertaining, but as one prominent comedian observed, they fail to tell the real story of Blues. The Blues was born during the 1890s, and was a milestone in terms of secular African-American music. When learning Blues music on the piano, you should be aware of the different types of Blues music, including:

Delta Blues
This was the first style of Blues, which African-American male traveling workers in the Mississippi Delta area played. This music that you can learn through blues piano lessons often included only a singer and instruments such as a guitar, piano, or harmonica. Like previous African-American music, it included a “Call” and a “Response.”

Chicago Blues
When traveling workers moved from the Delta Blues to the Chicago region, they brought their Delta Blues music with them. Changes to the original Blues music included the use of microphones, electric guitars, drum sets, and horns.

Texas Blues
This style of Blues used the same instruments as Chicago Blues did. However, it typically has more “swing” than other varieties of Blues.

Blues Rock
